Ranbir Kapoor’s girlfriend count is less than 10 – or so he claims

Ranbir Kapoor has the art of underplaying down pat – he does it in his performances and in real life as well. Which is why we aren’t buying the figure he has supplied… Quizzed about his girlfriend count, tongue firmly in cheek he replied, “I’m not such a courageous man like Sanju sir to give my life out so openly but my count is less than 10!”

Getting serious about playing Dutt in Sanju, he shared, “As an actor, it doesn’t really bother you because I was very excited to play this part. While acting I was imagining what Sanju sir must have been going through. For me it was acting, it was not really happening to me. It was all make-up, the blood on the face, the experiences in jail. But just thinking about what he must have been going through was such an inspiration to me that the film was fairly easy. Also because we had such an incredible cast and Raju sir, everything was smooth-sailing.”

The film has changed him he agrees, adding, “Subconsciously, every character you play – and that’s why you choose them - you want to imbibe certain qualities from them. And I think Sanju sir’s life is such that we all can learn something from his mistakes. That’s why he has given it so gracefully, that these are the mistakes I’ve made. So his mistakes I can really understand and learn from.”

He also touched up Dutt’s relationship with his father, Sunil Dutt which features strongly in the film… “As you see in the trailer, Sanju sir went through a drug phase. He went so deep into drugs that he completely lost himself, he completely lost perspective of life. He went to his father and said ‘I’m gone. If you don’t save me right now, I won’t be able to survive’.

And that’s when Sunil sa’ab realized that his son had gone so deep into drugs that he decided to live his life to make his son okay. He took him to America, to rehab. That was a very important moment in Sanju sir’s life. It was a life-changing moment – he would have either died or survived. I think he was very brave to want to fight the drugs.”
Hero worship at its best, here…
