Saina biopic update: Shraddha now builds stamina to avoid injury on court

With the first schedule of the Saina Nehwal biopic set to begin in September, it is prep time in earnest for the team behind the film. The script of the film has been locked, as shared by dialogue writer Amitosh Nagpal (of Hindi Medium and Gulaab Gang fame). Director Amole Gupte, who has been working on the film since August 2015, reveals that the pre-production work is on in full swing. Soon they will start conducting workshops with the leading lady. And it is a very intensive training that lies ahead.

Amole informs that now on the prep will be a roadmap for Shraddha’s badminton training. She has already completed round one of the training programme, in which she has gained the understanding of the noted badminton player Saina’s style on the court, her grip on the racket and the ground. As Saina’s style is different from that of her contemporaries, the research team has closely observed every match played by her. Based on their findings, Shraddha is being trained intensively.

The petite star had already started her training regimen for a few months last year. Now she will get back to prep, focussing on strengthening her stamina on the court and matching the choreography. It is no walk in the park, as Amole informs that the regimen will focus on the level of sustainability. They will work on the muscles to avoid injuries as they go forward. One plus point is that Shraddha has also been training for Saaho, a spy thriller, in which she reportedly plays a tough character. As Amole points out, her physical regimen for this Prabhas film has come in handy for the Saina biopic.

Shraddha’s prep for the biopic also includes getting Saina’s Haryanvi dialect down properly. Given that Saina hails from Hisar and her family uses the Haryanvi dialect in their conversations with one other, it was imperative to get it right. This saw a language expert born in Haryana, Amitosh being brought in, to write those dialogues which have the Haryanvi touch. He will also guide Shraddha in getting the required dialogue delivery right. Being Saina sure doesn’t come easy!
