I am trying to be both a mother and a father to my children: Boney Kapoor on life after Sridevi's death

Legendary and veteran actress Sridevi passed away suddenly and untimely on February 24, 2018, in Dubai where she had gone to attend her nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding. The cause of her death was cited as ‘accidental drowning’ in a bathtub. Her sudden demise shocked the entire world and made many people tear up. Her husband Boney Kapoor had a tough time dealing with his loss and so did her young daughter Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. In his first official interview since her death, Boney said that he is still recovering from her death.

Speaking about his beloved wife, Sridevi, Boney said, “I am trying to be both a mother and a father to my children. She was suddenly gone. These past months have been very difficult. Everything went on a freeze-pause in our lives. There were so many things left unsaid and undone. Now I am finally picking up the pieces again trying to put my life together for my children’s sake. There were things that were put on pause. I am trying to resume my life. I am yet to come to terms with the fact that she’s gone forever.”

Sridevi was awarded the Best Actress award posthumously for her performance in Mom at the 65th National Film Awards. The honour was received by Boney, Janhvi and Khushi on behalf of the actress. Recently, a video also surfaced from the awards day where Janhvi spoke about her mother’s award but she refrained from talking about her. Janhvi will soon be making her Bollywood debut in Dhadak opposite Ishaan Khattar but her mother Sridevi will not be there to see her triumph.

Boney has been trying to keep Sridevi’s legacy alive and has taken over her social media accounts as well. In a statement released on her death he said, “Losing a friend, wife and mother of your two young daughters is a loss inexplicable in words. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my family, friends, colleagues and well-wishers and all of you countless fans of my Sridevi who have stood by us like rocks. I am blessed to have the support and love of Arjun and Anshula, who have been such pillars of strength for myself, Khushi and Janhvi. Together, as a family we have tried to face this unbearable loss. To the world she (Sridevi) was their Chandni… the actor par excellence… their Sridevi… but to me she was my love, my friend, mother to our girls… my partner. To our daughters, she was their everything… their life. She was the axis around which our family ran.”
