Salman was also keen to adapt the Mahabharata to the silver screen and was toying with the idea for years. But when he heard that Aamir has taken the plunge he decided to step in. A filmmaker who is close to both the actors said, “Salman has been keen to do his own version of the Mahabharata. When he heard Aamir is doing it, he offered to pitch in. Aamir has spoken to Salman to play Krishna.”

As per the grapevine, Aamir has also roped in his Thugs of Hindostan co-star Amitabh Bachchan to play Dhritarashtra (Duryodhana’s father and the blind king of Hastinapur). If Salman does play Lord Krishna in the film then the Khan duo will be seen together on screen after 24 years. They last shared screen space in the cult comedy classic Andaz Apna Apna which also starred Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Shakti Kapoor and Paresh Rawal and was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and released in 1994. The film did not fare too well on the box office at the time of its release but has over the years gained cult status as one of the best comedy films ever made and is favourite film in popular culture.
