Would have shot fifteen minutes differently in 'My Name is Khan', reveals Karan Johar

Karan Johar’s My Name is Khan (MNIK) is probably one of the best films of his career as a director and in fact of Shah Rukh Khan’s as well as he played an autistic character convincingly. The film written by Shibani Bhathija released in 2010 and was based on the September 11 attacks on the twin towers in New York City. The movie chronicled the effect of the terrorist attack on a couple's peaceful existence. The film was not only critically acclaimed but was a commercial success as well and is remembered as one of SRK’s best performance.

At the launch of Y Film’s special project, 6 Pack Band 2.0 recently, which aims to give a platform to autistic kids, Karan could not help but remember the film in which the protagonist played an autistic. When he was asked about My Name is Khan whether he would like to change something on the film, he said, “Har film jab bant jaati hai, to ek evaluation ka mauka mil jata hai. Hum use film ke bare mein sochte hain ki kya sahi tha aur kya galat. In all my films I find some flaws. Like there was a section of a hurricane in My Name Is Khan which I feel directorially I didn't handle nicely. Which was my mistake. If I have to go back in 2009 when we were making My Name Is Khan, I would have shot perhaps those fifteen minutes differently. Apart from that, I have to say I'm very proud of that film, I'm proud of communication of that film, I'm proud of the context of the film was made for. More than anything else, I'm proud of Rizwan Khan, which Shah Rukh Khan did. I'm very grateful to Shibani Bhathija who wrote that film for me."

While making the film Johar came to know about autism in far greater detail and since then have been trying to work for special kids. “Constantly, I have been dealing with them very silently. I have been with organisations that deal with children like these. Especially because I think I was always born as a mother in my heart," shared KJo.
