Court orders Parmanu to release on May 25

The battle between Prernaa Arora’s KriArj Entertainment and John Abraham’s JA Entertainment over Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran being fought in the Bombay High Court is coming to an end. And, what’s definitely going to happen as one of the outcomes is that Parmanu will be released on May 25 and not May 4 as was initially expected. Is this victory for John or Prernaa who are co-producers of Parmanu?

According to court reporters covering the proceedings, it most certainly is John’s win, because that is what the actor of the thriller on the Indian Army’s nuclear bomb tests at Pokhran in May 1998 wanted – that his film finally see the light of day.

KriArj had sought an injunction against Parmanu’s release which the court flatly refused to grant Prernaa. Instead, the court informed KriArj that if the film production company wanted to secure its rights in Parmanu, it should pay the entire balance amount of Rs. 6.5 crore owed to JA Entertainment that the actor and co-producer was pleading for. KriArj was further told that it had to show its commitment to Parmanu and its ability to spend Rs. 10 crore on the film’s P&A by depositing the money in court or in an escrow account. The matter was argued all of yesterday and the settlement terms of the dispute are reportedly being worked out and finalised between the lawyers of KriArj and JA Entertainment today.

While no official statement was released by either KriArj Entertainment of JA Entertainment on the outcome of the ‘Battle for Parmanu’ (as the case is being called), efforts to contact John failed because the actor was unavailable for comment. Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran is directed by Abhishek Sharma and written by Saiwyn Quadros, Sanyuktha Chawla Sheikh and Abhishek Sharma.

The film based on the nuclear bomb test explosions conducted by the Indian Army at Pokhran on May 1, 1998 features John Abraham, Diana Penty and Boman Irani.
