Back in the day, Sushmita Sen was still in her teens when she won the Miss Universe contest – she was the first Indian to achieve this honour. It was a heady time for her with the world at her feet and a stream of glamorous, world-famous personalities wooing her. Sushmita brought all those memories back again, as she shared a photo of herself with the sizzling hot Puerto Rican singer, Ricky Martin on Instagram.

The two are clearly having a close moment – in fact, there were rumours that they had even dated briefly. Sush captioned the pic, “Ur first meeting in Mexico, Las Brisas, Acapulco. I was 18 years old and Ricky Martin was 22 then! Now, I have two daughters and he has two sons born from the heart. Our journeys have truly embodied “Livin La Vida Loca”, literally meaning ‘the crazy life’. Sharing memories smiles of a truly wonderful soul! To your happiness, Ricky.”

The duo had meet during one of her international trips. They had it off well and had spent time together, travelling and chilling. In fact, Sushmita was also touted to be the inspiration behind Ricky’s hit, ‘Maria’.

Eventually, the two ended up sharing a very special common factor – while Sush adopted two girl children, Renee and Alisah, Ricky went on to become the father of twins Valentino and Matteo born via surrogacy with husband Jwan Yosef. This is the connection that Sush alludes to when she quotes about their children “born from the heart”.

Sushmita had been expressive of her support when Martin had opened up about his sexuality. “All the time I have known him, I’ve been so proud of him. It takes tremendous courage to accept your own DNA. I knew he was gay. More power to him. It is a fantastic feeling to be able to love who you want to and that’s a choice no one can make for you,” she had declared.

Clearly, she hasn’t forgotten her old friend and still wishes him well.
