Minus Mahabharata, Aamir might just essay Mogul

The happy game of musical chairs continues… Just yesterday news emerged that Aamir Khan could be seriously reconsidering his ambitious plans for a five-part Mahabharata film series, fearing a backlash from radical elements. With those Rs.1000 crore plans being pushed to the backburner, he now apparently has another pot that is on the boil – the Gulshan Kumar biopic, Mogul.

Mogul has been in the news since a while for all the wrong reasons. Based on the life of T-Series’ founder, Gulshan Kumar, it has been a passion project for his son, Bhushan Kumar who has yearned to make the film on the life of the music baron who had been murdered in broad daylight.

However, the project appeared jinxed. After the film was announced with Akshay Kumar in the lead, the star chose to pull out for mysterious reasons. There were murmurs that Akshay did not want to risk damaging his wholesome image and hence had returned the signing amount.

Then the project passed on to Aamir Khan. Busy with the filming of Thugs of Hindostan, Aamir had even pulled out of the Rakesh Sharma biopic Salute to concentrate on his dream Mahabharata project. However, he was supposedly interested enough in the Mogul project to want to come on board as co-producer. Now, with a gap opening up in his dates diary post the Mahabharata change of plan, Aamir could well take up the lead role in Mogul as well.

While confirmations are yet to come in, Aamir is reportedly keen on starring in this biopic. After reading the script he had apparently asked the makers to incorporate some changes. There has already been considerable interaction between Aamir and the makers over the script and Aamir is reportedly pleased with what has finally emerged. He could greenlight the film officially soon.

Given Aamir’s formidable reputation, Mogul would emerge as an extremely powerful and gripping film. That’s if he does sign on the dotted line!
