The filming of this sports drama had wrapped up last year itself. The cast and crew had even enjoyed a wrap party. But turns out everyone was missing their leading man too darned much. So off trooped a bunch of assistants and crew members to meet Akki!
They came bearing gifts – special cakes to please his sweet tooth, an unusual pair of sky blue shoes and a tee with the slogan ‘One more for safety’. Akshay beamed at the presents coming his way but the slogan on the tee had him a tad confused… Till the penny dropped and he realized it was exactly what director Reema would say every time she would ask him for a retake after he had given a shot!

Full marks to team Gold for humour and Akki couldn’t stop grinning in appreciation.
Gold is scheduled to release over the Independence Day weekend. The film is a fictional tale set against the backdrop of India’s historic Olympic win in 1948. Akshay essays the role of a hockey coach and he has apparently delivered a wonderful performance. The teaser shows him embodying patriotic sentiments as well as multiple layers of eccentricities. Complete with Bengali accent, pencil moustache and retro hairstyle, this one is a standout character of his, for sure.
Reema Kagti, who has directed the Aamir Khan-starrer Talaash and Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, is also gung-ho about Gold. “I’ve always been interested in the great sports films,” she shared. “I can watch them over and over again. And I wanted to direct a sports film. It wasn’t until my friend the lyricist-writer Ankur Tiwari shared the idea of a film on a historic hockey match that India played at the 1948 Olympics and brought home India’s first gold medal, that I finally got down to doing my own sports film.”
Maybe she should consider a side business as the creator of hilarious tee slogans, as well!
