Action scene puts Alia out of action, suffers a shoulder injury during Brahmastra shoot

It was just five days ago that Alia Bhatt was giggling with her Brahmastra gang as she celebrated her birthday as they shot in Bulgaria. Shooting for this Ayan Mukerji action adventure however, is no walk in the park. This big-budget fantasy film also includes hard-core action sequences. And it was shooting one such scene that Alia ended up injuring herself rather badly.

While performing a stunt for the film, which co-stars Ranbir Kapoor, the 25-year-old actress fell and hurt herself. She has landed up with severe shoulder and arm injuries and has been advised bed rest.  Apparently, her arm and shoulder have been bandaged and held up in a sling. She also has blood clots in her arms. Naturally, she is out of action for the time being.

Her accident is a setback to the outdoor shoot of this Karan Johar production, which is part of an ambitious trilogy. The Bulgaria schedule was to be completed by the end of the month. With Alia incapacitated, the team is figuring out if any of her close-scenes are required to be shot.

Brahmastra is a Sanskrit word which means the weapon of Hindu God Brahma, who is called the creator of the universe. Ayan had revealed that the term refers to the “ancient wisdom, energies and power” in the film.

“It’s a modern-day film set in India as it exists today. But the reason it’s called Brahmastra is because the energies, wisdom, powers in the film come from ancient India. That’s all I would say. There are some costumes, may be not the way you’d expect them to be,” the director had shared.

It has been four years since Ayan’s last film, the successful romantic-comedy Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. And it is a very special project for the young filmmaker. “It’s a very big project of my life. All my hopes are on this film,” he had declared.

Rumour has it that Alia might return to Mumbai as her injuries heal. However, there is no confirmation on the same as yet. Ironically, recently Amitabh Bachchan, who is also a key part of Brahmastra, had suffered a shoulder injury while shooting for Thugs of Hindostan. However, he has resumed shooting after his condition improved.
