When Ali chatted with “super cool” Best Actress Frances McDormand

Ali Fazal was at the Oscar’s to represent his film Victoria & Abdul which had been nominated for costume and make-up at the 90th Academy Awards. The film is based on a novel by Shrabani Basu. It revolves around the relationship shared by Queen Victoria and Abdul, who was a munshi in her government. It also shows his journey on how he became one of the most powerful figures in the court.

While the role of the queen is played by Judi Dench, Abdul is essayed by Ali. And the lucky star got to experience all the excitement of Oscar night from up close. Here are the highlights of Ali’s Oscar night…

Meeting his idols

Ali declares he was overwhelmed by the love he received on D-day. For starters, he got to actually chat with this idol, Hollywood actor Samuel Jackson. “It was insane! He congratulated me on Victoria & Abdul and told me that he watches a lot of Bollywood films, the last one being Baahubali which he really liked.”

What’s more, Ali was sitting at the same table with Smokey Robinson, a music legend. “It was nice spending the entire evening with him over a four-course meal,” the actor shares. He was even more kicked when Darren Aronofsky came up to him to say that he liked his work!

As Ali puts it, even though he wasn’t nominated personally, he was one step closer to living the dream and really hopes to bring the prized statuette home one day.
