Why Sanjay Dutt wants the biopic trailer to release May 8…

Raju Hirani’s biopic on Sanjay Dutt has remained largely under wraps. The odd-picture has been leaked from sets and the director and leading man, Ranbir Kapoor have also shed some light on what we can expect. However, we will get our first real taste of what lies in store come May 8, when the film’s trailer is apparently set to release.

It is learnt that Sanjay himself is eager for the trailer to release on this particular date, as his debut film, Rocky had hit screens on May 8, 1981. It is a red-letter date for him, for all time. It had been a highly bittersweet moment for Dutt, as the release of Rocky had come just five days after the death of his beloved mother, Nargis Dutt, who lost her battle with cancer on May 3. It is known that in her memory a seat had been left vacant in the cinema hall for the film’s premiere. Her husband Sunil Dutt and son, Sanju had evidently broken down when he appeared on the big screen.

We have no doubt that Sanjay Dutt will break down again all these years later when he sees his tumultuous life being portrayed on the big screen…

It had been recently reported that a special promotional video was being planned, which would feature Ranbir Kapoor in conversation with Sanjay Dutt. It would be Hirani’s way of getting the audience to know Dutt in a closer way over some candid conversation.
The film has been touted as the no-holds-barred story of Sanjay Dutt. However, given Hirani’s style of treatment, the film will not be a dark, gory account of Dutt’s struggle with drugs and the underworld. It will focus more on the father-son relationship with Paresh Rawal playing Sunil Dutt, and his abiding friendships.
