Doting Mira calls Shahid the best thing about Padmaavat!

Shahid Kapoor’s ‘baby-wife’, as he called her, is also turning out to be his main cheerleader. Mira, along with her parents had watched her husband’s Padmaavat and she came out raving about his performance.

“I think the film is a homage to the Rajput culture and tradition,” she stated. “I am extremely proud to see Shahid essay that role and do so much justice and more to it. Watching Shahid onscreen has been a visual treat. I really feel, without any biases, that he is the best thing in the film!” How sweet is that!

Shahid was equally generous in his praise of Mira, revealing that he had been rather nervous about taking up the role, and Mira has been a huge support during the filming of Padmaavat. “I was very nervous because I was the new addition to the team. People used to ask me about the role in the film, but my wife was a huge support for me. She just told me to go out there and express yourself and to believe in yourself. It is an important film. Honestly, it is not the most author-backed role in the film. But, I feel amazing seeing the love for the film.”

Speaking about playing Maharawal Ratan Singh in the film, Shahid revealed, “It was tough to portray this kind of a character. We saw the film yesterday as a team and we were all emotional. Everybody was very happy after the film. We are super-excited. I was very nervous; I felt like an underdog, but today I am very happy.”

With Ranveer and Deepika playing the main leads in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical retelling, it was only natural for Shahid to feel insecure about his own part in the film, from time to time. At one point, he had supposedly been very upset that Ranveer Singh's presence in the trailer was so overpowering that people barely talked about his character. Apparently, he had been appeased when he was assured of a separate trailer being cut for his character. He had also been paid a hefty Rs.7 – 8 crores to step into the shoes of the Maharawal, which was close to what Ranveer himself had been paid.

That insecurity is now a thing of the past, as Shahid and his wife pat each other’s back. They absolutely deserve to!
