Pop the champagne, Kajol returns to filming!

Sorry, but an actress as awesome as Kajol has no business being away from the arclights for such extended periods of time! (We are not taking the Tamil film, VIP 2 into consideration at all). Last seen on the Hindi film screen in Dilwale in 2015, the wait has finally ended, with the actress commencing shooting for husband Ajay Devgn's home production, Eela.

Said to be an adaptation of Anand Gandhi’s Gujarati play, Beta Kaagdo (Son, Crow), the film will be helmed by the wonderful Pradeep Sarkar.

According to sources, Kajol plays the role of a young woman, who loves to sing. She aspires to become famous but is forced to get married instead. Marital turmoil forces her to leave her husband and raise her child as a single parent. Later, she enhances her singing skills with encouragement from her son and eventually gets appreciated for her craft. We are loving the sound of that already!

Director Pradeep Sarkar reveals that he had been offered the script around four months ago. He admits it took him time to understand the Gujarati tone of the script, but eventually he fell in love with “this extremely emotional story which boasts of some really strong characters.” He feels there is a strong chance of people getting really close to them.

Shedding more light on the project, Pradeep shared that he was also involved in the dialogue and character-building as there are a few insights that he wants to incorporate to make the film more endearing. “This is not like Parineeta,” he declared, referring to his Saif Ali Khan-Vidya Balan starrer, “where everything was detailed; this is more free-flowing, a character and music driven film.”

Expectedly, Pradeep is rather smitten by the lead actress. “She's an awesome actress who picks up a role and owns it. She has her own style, charm and a particular way of talking that enhances the character,” he described.

Incidentally, the last time we heard Kajol sing, was a couple of years ago, when she gave an interview with Shah Rukh Khan at a radio station. The song “Baby Doll” from the film Ragini MMS had started playing in the background and Kads was quick to pipe in with her squeaky vocals!
