Twenty-five years is a landmark that can inspire sentimentality, we guess. And Shah Rukh Khan was clearly in emotional mode as he accepted his special honour for his contribution to the film and TV industry at the Zee Cine Awards 2018.
At the glittering show at the MMRDA Grounds, Mumbai, as the superstar received his award, the AV encapsulating his most iconic moments from his films was played. It had both the audiences and the star getting all nostalgic. In his heartfelt acceptance speech, he recounted, “When I started my journey in the entertainment industry, I thought of doing not more than two or three films but ended up staying in the industry for 25 years.” He also spoke about the time when he had run into Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Chandra (Essel Group Chairman) in London 25 years ago, when Zee was just being launched. While thanking everyone, he added, “I try to keep myself healthy so I can serve you for as long as I can.”
In an interview, Shah Rukh had spoken at length about his journey in films. “I cannot be cynical about how people will respond. I have done trashy films, I have done good films and I have done some bad ones. There is a huge acceptance for what I have done… As an actor, choosing the film that I want to do is the freedom that I should have. When you sit with a story, sometimes you just want to do it. Like I mentioned, sometimes I realise it's not my world, but I get molded in that space only to see if I can pull it off. Sometimes I fail; other times I succeed. The success doesn't make me want to do the same thing again. Or the failure doesn't want me to not do it ever again. Instead, it makes me want to do it all over again. Because that part has to be done. I can't get it wrong.”
