Kangana Ranaut is ready to ride again as the valorous Rani of Jhansi. This time in Mumbai’s Film City where a grand and elaborate period set for her film Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is being urgently constructed. This will be for the last leg of the historical biopic being directed by Krish and Kangana is reportedly going to begin shooting on December 18.
According to sources, work on the set began last week and ought to be completed this weekend. Krish and his production team are overseeing every minute detail because they do not want to misrepresent any fact of the Jhansi history around which this biopic is based. Rani Laxmibai is a hugely revered figure and after the controversy, Sanjay Leela Bhansali ran into for the alleged distortion of facts while making his period drama Padmavati, no filmmaker wants to take chances while making a film that is richly steeped in history.

PeepingMoon.com has learned that labourers have been working round the clock to construct the Jhansi set which includes the Rani Mahal and Jhansi Ka Killa (the Queen’s palace and fort in Jhansi) and also a battleground where the freedom fighting warrior queen was killed in battle in 1858 by British Imperialists during India’s First War of Independence. What artifacts cannot be copied will be made by using VFX. A huge amount of money has reportedly been invested into the set which Krish is determined should look as authentic as possible.

Part of the Jhansi Ka Killa constructed on the Manikarnika set is going to be the Karak Bijli Top, the famous cannon in the Jhansi Fort which when fired sounded like a clap of lightning. When shooting commences, Krish will get elephants and horses that are required for the battle scenes. At the moment, tight security is being mounted on the set a la Padmavati and no cameras or cell phones are being allowed from which pictures might be leaked outside.
Kangana has had her fair share of controversy with Manikarnika. It started off with director Ketan Mehta slapping the actress with a lawsuit for allegedly hijacking his Rani Laxmibai biopic. Then, Kangana got injured on the head with a sword while shooting a battle scene in Jodhpur. She also tore a ligament while leaping from a 40-feet-high wall in another action sequence. And lately, some behind-the-scenes pictures made their way to the Internet angering the actress. Despite which the actress has been gamely limping her way through the film.
