Rani Padmavati’s soul guards over us, says Deepika

Today, the trailer of Sanjay Bhansali’s much-awaited film Padmavati that was released on October 9, reached 50 million views. Making it the most-watched Hindi film trailer of all time. On the occasion, the producers released a 3D version of it to the media amid tight police security. Present were Viacom head Ajit Andhare, CEO of Bhansali Productions Shobha Sant and Deepika Padukone who plays Rani Padmavati in the film.

It’s not often that a Bollywood film is made in 3D. Speaking about this, Ajit said, “Padmavati will be the widest 3D release in Hindi.” After Mary Kom (2014) this is the second time that Viacom 18 Motion Pictures has joined hands with Bhansali.

However, after Goilyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela (2013) and Bajirao Mastani (2015) this is Deepika’s third collaboration with the director. The actress said, “This is my third film with him but every time I work with Bhansali I have to go prepared. You have to trust him and go with the flow.”

The actress also revealed that the Ghoomar song and dance sequence took place right on the sets. “I didn’t rehearse 66 circles beforehand, it all happened on the sets. Bhansali loves to go with instinct; I prepared for 2-3 weeks only for the folk dance moves.”

When asked how she felt playing Padmavati, Deepika said, “With Mastani (her character in Bajirao Mastani) there was a sense of a warrior princess. But Padmavati’s wars and battlefields are different. However, Padmavati’s spirit is similar to Mastani’s, but her fights are so much more than the war.”

Though the film was announced last year, the actress has been living with the story for more than three years. “For me, it's not about just the physical preparations, but also the mental and emotional which started three years back.”

Bhansali’s Padmavati has received an enormous amount of attention not only for its magnificent production values but also due to the controversies that came with it. However, that has not dampened the spirit of the cast and the filmmaker who is hell-bent on releasing Padmavati on December 1. Speaking about these issues, Deepika said, “Padmavati’s soul is somewhere here. There is energy beyond us. All the challenges we have faced, we haven’t done anything and still, things are falling into place for us. Her blessings are with us. Nothing and no one can stop this film.”
