Arjun Rampal lands in legal trouble, sued for failing to repay loan of Rs 1 crore

Arjun Rampal has landed himself in legal trouble. He is being sued by YT Entertainment for not paying back Rs 1 crore loan to the company. As reported by a leading daily, the actor had taken the loan in May 2018 and was supposed to pay back the loan within a time period of 90 days. The company has alleged that Arjun has defaulted on the loan payment and filed a lawsuit against him at the Bombay High Court. However, according to the report in the daily,

Arjun has said that the matter has been cleared and settled. He told the daily, “The issue has been cleared and the transaction has happened.” However, he said that he will make the rest of the matter clear in court. The lawsuit was filed through solicitor Aurup Dasgupta. It stated that Arjun was supposed to pay back the loan within 90 days along with an interest of 12% per annum.

Apparently, the actor had given a post-dated cheque of Rs 1 crore but the cheque bounced when it was deposited on August 23. YT Entertainment had filed a criminal complaint against Arjun last year in October after the cheque did not get cleared. Arjun was served a legal notice under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 on October 8 and was asked to pay the principal amount with interest within 14 days. However, since he failed to pay the money back, a criminal complaint was filed against him in the metropolitan magistrate court on October 29 at Andheri. After the criminal complaint, Arjun paid Rs 7.5 lakh to YT Entertainment on November 22 but failed to repay the entire amount and hence a commercial suit has been filed against him for the recovery of Rs 1,00,50,000 with interest after adjusting the amount already paid by him. The actor’s claim of repaying the amount was refuted by Dasgupta who said that only Rs 7.5 lakhs was repaid by Arjun to the company.
