‘He was a nice and humble human being, a father figure to me,’ says Sunil Lahri as he mourns the demise of his Ramayan co-star Arvind Trivedi

Sunil Lahri, who played Lakshman in Ramanand Sagar’s iconic mythological serial Ramayan has mourned the demise of veteran actor and his co-star Arvind Trivedi, who played the role of Ravan in the serial. Arvind Trivedi breathed his last on October 5 at the age of 82 years. His last rites were performed today. Sunil fondly remembered the actor and told an online portal that was in constant touch with his daughters. He also revealed that Arvind Trivedi died peacefully, surrounded by his family. Sunil said losing Arvind Trivedi is like losing his father figure.

Ironically, it was Sunil who had rubbished the rumours of Arvind Trivedi’s death in May this year on social media. Talking about his close bond with the veteran actor with whom he shared only clashes and animosity on screen, Sunil said, “I shared a beautiful relationship with Arvind ji. My relation with him grew manifold after Ramayan than during Ramayan. He was a nice and humble human being, a father figure to me. Very rarely do you find a person like him, so sorted and clean-hearted. He had a great sense of humour. In fact, in Ramayan, I got along most with him."

Sunil also revealed that he and his co-star Dipika Chikhlia, who played Sita in Ramayan has planned to meet Arvind Trivedi but the plan never materialized. He said, “I met him last around two years ago. We planned to meet twice after that, but somehow that didn't happen. At this age, he was 82, it doesn't look nice to disturb someone. He was keen on meeting me. A few days ago, I got to know that he has gone to his village in Idar, Gujarat. I had shared a photo of him from Idar as well. I was thinking of meeting him, but I could not, thinking he is in Idar. But, today I got to know that he was back in Mumbai. We weren't in touch for the last year or so. His daughter used to speak to me on his behalf. Dipika and I were supposed to go and meet him, and he was looking forward to meeting us, but unfortunately, it got cancelled."

He also spoke about the senior actors last moments and said, “I spoke to his daughter. He has three daughters. One is living in the US and the other two are here, in Mumbai. During his last moments, they were there with him. They were holding his hand and talking to him when he breathed his last. They felt he had fallen asleep, but when they tried to wake him up, he did not respond. They called the doctor, who then told them that he is no more."
