Munmun Dutta aka Babita not quitting Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, clarifies 'track in the show did not require my presence'

Rumours were rife that Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah's Babita a.k.a Munmun Dutta has quit the show. The actress's absence from the sitcom gave birth to speculations. Munmun, who has been a part of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah for 13 years now, didn't shoot for fresh episodes of the show in Daman with the rest of the cast. Now, putting an end to all speculations, the actress told a leading daily that the rumours of her not reporting on the set are untrue. She clarified that the recent track didn't require her presence.

"Over the past 2-3 days, few things were falsely reported, which had negative implications on my life. People are saying that I did not report on the sets of the show and it is totally untrue. The truth is that the track in the show did not require my presence. Therefore, I was not called for shooting. Production decides the scenes and the next track. I don't decide that. I am just an individual who goes to work, does her job and comes back. So if I am not required in the scenes, I will obviously not shoot," Munmun told the daily.

She further added that if she plans to quit Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, she'll declare it herself. "If I plan to quit the show, I will declare it myself because viewers are emotionally attached to my character and they deserve to know the truth than just speculate," Munmun shared.

Munmun found herself in the eye of the storm after she accidentally used a casteist slur in a now-deleted YouTube vlog. Despite issuing an apology immediately, the actress faced legal troubles as multiple FIRs across the country were lodged against her. In June, the Supreme Court stayed criminal proceedings against her.
