Indian Idol 12 is making headlines, but for all the wrong reasons. The show found itself in the eye of the storm after Amit Kumar claimed that he was paid to praise the contestants despite the poor quality of singing. The audience is now in no mood to tolerate the drama that otherwise happens on the singing reality show. Recently, Indian Idol 12 invited famous lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar for a special episode dedicated to the songs that he has written over several decades.
A contestant of Indian Idol 12, Shanmukhapriya, received support from Javed. For the unversed, Shanmukhapriya has been the target of social media trolling for yodelling and giving a modern spin to every classic song. The veteran lyricist appreciated the young singer for her talent and called the male audience 'chauvinists'. This wasn't welcomed by many.

In the episode, Javed told Shanmukhapriya, "You should be criticised because male chauvinists in the country don’t like a smart, confident and competent girl like you. Those males become insecure. They like a girl who is reluctant, one who is unsure. Your qualities say that no one can do it better than me. Your unabashed qualities will not be liked by many. You don’t pay heed to them. You continue doing the good work and your future is bright."
