Don’t know if I am replacing Navjot Singh Sidhu permanently on The Kapil Sharma Show, says Archana Puran Singh

After Navjot Singh Sidhu courted controversy over his remarks in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack, reports of his ouster from The Kapil Sharma Show surfaced while several quarters also claimed that Archana Puran Singh will ‘replace’ him on the show. However, while speaking to a leading daily, Archana clarified, saying that nothing has been finalized as yet. “I don’t know if I am replacing Sidhu permanently. I had shot for two episodes because he was busy with his political commitments. In the past too, many times when Sidhu had other commitments, I had stepped in for him on the show,” Archana told the daily.

Last week, Sony Entertainment Television, on which The Kapil Sharma Show airs, shared a post on social media welcoming Archana to the show, amidst reports that she has replaced Sidhu. While the post came just a day after news emerged that Sidhu won’t be a part of the show anymore, Archana’s entry into the show was done without clarity on whether she is indeed his replacement.

While speaking to the daily, Archana added that Kapil and his team are like family to her and she will definitely step in if required because she cannot refuse their request. “Kapil and I go back a long way; I have known him since the time when he was a participant on Comedy Circus. Kapil and his entire team and the channel are family for me. So, when your family needs you, you can’t say no to them. If the channel and makers want me to step in, I will do so,” Archana added.

Kapil, meanwhile, addressed the controversy over Sidhu’s comments and told a leading news channel that “banning someone or sacking” Navjot Singh Sidhu from the show is “not the solution.” The comedian’s comments were viewed in favour of Sidhu by the internet following which Kapil Sharma was viciously trolled as #BoycottKapilSharma trended throughout on Twitter.

Navjot Singh Sidhu was reportedly sacked from The Kapil Sharma Show following his remarks that “nations cannot be held responsible for the dastardly acts of terrorists” and that the dialogue with Islamabad should continue. He was censured for his comments severely.

As many as 49 CRPF troopers lost their lives in the Pulwama terror attack on February 14 in which their convoy was attacked. Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility for it.
