KJo-KL run between a sticky wicket with Pandya

Hardik Pandya, one of the finest boys Team India has ever seen, tells his parents about his sex life. The confession came out of the batsman’s candid conversation with Karan Johar and teammate K L Rahul on the coveted couch of Koffee with Karan last night.

The honest admission came as a googly from Pandya who managed to bowl over both KJo and KL in one innings. It was the emerging result of the hour-long tete-a-tete with the sportsmen on the Star World chat show. The exuberant Pandya, from time to time, threatened to fly solo, but thank God for KL who held his ground. Not sure about who wears the pants in the team of the ‘Men in Blue,’ but if KL’s statements are anything to go by, the boys often go about half to completely naked in the green room. Er, TMI, okay.

Soon after their introduction as the ‘glorious present and the hopeful future’ of India’s cricket wing, Pandya and KL took to the couch like a fish in water. There was comfort and coolness in the air but observantly a breeze of misogyny since Pandya said he focuses more on ‘watching’ a girl’s moves than talking, least of all remember her name. A question asked during the talk was what happens if the teammates end up hitting on the same girl? While a composed and visibly more sensible KL said ‘up to the woman,’ Pandya disagreed saying it’s all about the talent. ‘Jise mila woh leke jao.’

Karan Johar’s talk show is all about talking, talking and talking. The boys spoke a helluva lot. Pandya even mentioned how his family is ‘cool’ with all that he does (and beyond maybe). He revisited a party incident where his parents asked him about the girl he was dating or has a ‘scene’ with. Pointing to several of them he told them, ‘This one, this one and this one.’ Agree with you KJo, some ‘wild family’ there.

No brownie points for guessing that soon after the episode was aired, the stage was set for Twitter. It is, however, mention-worthy how much of poise and dignity KL showcased. Even if it was about mentioning his celebrity crush (which was Malaika Arora until sometime back), the boy shied away from taking names. In fact, he took not an inch of pride for being sloshed the night before he scored a century in a match in Miami. Nope Sir, pride for the on-field achievements but under the influence merely hours before the feat is something he wouldn’t count as one of them. He has redeemed himself thereon!

Speaking of redemption, lest you failed to notice, KJo was seen handing out a chance of sorts to Pandya on several occasions. To amend his statements. But the cricketer repeated the cringe-worthy words, louder and clearer every time, with zero regrets.

KL, too, enjoyed his embarrassing moment when asked to name an overrated Bollywood film and he went with Dhadak. Hah! KJo, however, was happy it made money. Maaf kiya, KL! He said he would love to take actress Katrina Kaif out on a date and picked Virat Kohli over Sachin Tendulkar as the better batsman.

On his turn, Pandya revealed (quite boastfully) his go-to pick up line is ‘Hard-d**k always.’ While Kareena Kapoor Khan may be married, he’d still love to take her out on a date. In a game of kill, marry and hook-up, his response was: marry  Parineeti Chopra, hook-up with Esha Gupta and kill Urvashi Rautela.

We are sure KJo and KL had quite a few facepalm moments while Pandya’s “classless” (as Tweeple said) confessions lasted. Clearly, he inhabits a different world (the black culture as he asserts). But that doesn’t mean we would discard his performances between the 22 yards. Not so well played, Hardik Pandya. KL Rahul retains his position.
