Veteran actor Nana Patekar dies at 75 after cardiac arrest in Goa

Veteran actor Nana Patekar passed away at the age of 75 on Thursday morning after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. The actor was found unconscious and was rushed to Manipal Hospital, where doctors tried to revive him for around 45 minutes. He was declared dead at around 5.20 am.

Born Vishwanath Patekar, the actor began his film journey with Gaman in 1978 and went on to become one of the most respected performers in Hindi and Marathi cinema. Known for his powerful dialogue delivery and intense screen presence, Nana worked across serious dramas, action films and comedies.

His memorable performances include Parinda, Krantiveer, Prahaar: The Final Attack, Agni Sakshi, Khamoshi: The Musical, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan, Natsamrat and Welcome. His portrayal of Uday Shetty in Welcome also showcased his comic timing and made him popular with a younger generation.

Nana was a three-time National Award winner and received the Padma Shri in 2013. He was also a director and theatre artiste. His recent appearances included O'Romeo and Subedaar, with the actor continuing to take on character-driven roles.  His death marks the end of a career spanning nearly five decades and leaves Indian cinema with one of its most distinctive voices and performers.
