Box Office: Sonakshi Sinha’s ‘Khandaani Shafakhana’ opens to poor numbers, ‘Judgementall Hai Kya’ stagnates, Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Super 30’ still going strong

Sonakshi Sinha starrer Khandaani Shafakhana that released on August 2 has opened to poor numbers at the box office. If the film does not pick up in the coming days then Sonakshi will have another dud on her hands. The film has earned mere Rs 85 lakhs on day two of its release. It opened at Rs 75 lakhs and has totaled Rs 1.6 crore by Saturday.

The film is directed by debutant director Shilpi Dasgupta and is a comedy film about Baby Bedi (Sonakshi) who inherits a sex clinic with the condition that she needs to run it for six months before she can sell it. The film also stars Varun Sharma, Nadira Babbar, Annu Kapoor and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Badshah makes his Bollywood debut with this film. Khandaani Shafakhana should pick up in the days to come otherwise it will be pronounced a flop.

Kangana Ranaut’s and Rajkummar Rao’s Judgementall Hai Kya has garnered Rs 33.02 crore at the box office. The film had earned around Rs 21 crore in its first weekend but experienced a lukewarm and underwhelming first week. The film is a psychological drama and has received rave reviews from all critics for the superb performance by its lead actors as well as for a story that treats mental illness with respect.

In Judgementall Hai Kya Kangana plays the role of a voice-over artist who suffers from acute psychosis. Rajkummar plays her tenant. Besides Kangana and Rajkummar, the film also stars Jimmy Sheirgill, Amyra Dastur, Amrita Puri, Brijendra Kala and Satish Kaushik, in key roles. It is directed by Prakash Kovelamudi and written by Kanika Dhillon. Ekta Kapoor has produced the film.

On the other hand, Arjun Patiala starring Kriti Sanon, Diljit Dosanjh and Varun Sharma has failed to impress the audience. It has collected mere Rs 6.25 crore in its first week. The film had a dull opening too and could not build up on its collections. A trade website reported, “Arjun Patiala collected a very poor 6.25 crore nett in week one. Even in Punjab where Diljit Dosanjh is a big star the film could not collect in a week what his Punjabi film Shadaa collected on the first day.”

Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan’s Super 30 is going great guns at the box office. The film has fetched Rs 137.93 crores and has crossed the lifetime business of Gully Boy. It will emerge the sixth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2019.
