Akshay Kumar's and Mouni Roy’s Gold has a fabulous start at the box office

Akshay Kumar’s Gold that released yesterday, on our 71st Independence Day, is raking in the moolah at the box office. Directed by Reema Kagti, Gold is inspired by true events that led India to its first Gold medal win as a free nation at the 1948 London Olympics. The film has collected Rs 25.25 crore in only one day and has an extraordinary start to its box office journey.

Apart from Akshay, the film stars Mouni Roy, Vineet Singh, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Sunny Kaushal in pivotal roles. It is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment's banner. Gold had a box office clash with John Abraham starrer Satyameva Jayate, yet had a fabulous start. In fact, both the films had a marvellous first-day opening and we’re sure that both keep the audience entertained.

Gold has been one of the most-awaited films of the year and has received rave reviews and critical acclaim from most critics in the country. Gold is a patriotic film that boasts of the tremendous honour and achievement that the hockey players brought to India. The film has also made it to the biggest openers of 2018, and will definitely garner more money during the weekend.

Akshay does not play a hockey player in the film but is instrumental in creating the team that clinches the coveted gold medal. On the other hand, Mouni plays his Bengali wife and made her Bollywood debut with this film. Kunal, on the other hand, plays the captain of the team who sees the team through.
