Sanju: Ranbir Kapoor's film attains blockbuster status, set to enter Rs 200 crore club soon

Ranbir Kapoor’s film Sanju which is a biopic on actor Sanjay Dutt’s life has become the actor’s most successful film till date. The film directed by Rajkumar Hirani collected Rs 18.90 crore on Wednesday, takings its total collections to Rs 186.41 crore net in India. The film is well poised to enter the coveted Rs 200 crore club and that too in a week.

Sanju has surpassed Salman Khan’s Race 3 collections and become the second highest grosser of the year after Padmaavat. Salman’s Race 3 garnered a total of Rs 175.77 crore but witnessed a downward trend due to negative reviews. The film’s collections spiraled downwards from Rs 39 plus crores on Sunday to Rs 14 crores on Monday and to single-digit figures in the same week. However, Sanju is only going from strength to strength.

Sanju is now Ranbir’s most successful film and has catapulted the star in the echelons of a superstar. It has washed away all the previous flops of the actor’s. Ranbir’s highest grosser before Sanju was Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani that also starred his ex-girlfriend Deepika Padukone. The film had fetched Rs 188.57 crores in 2013.

Sanju has already collected Rs 186.41 crores in just a week and will continue to rake in the moolah in the days to come. The way the film is currently running at the box office it looks like it will soon break the box office records set by Aamir Khan’s Dangal and SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion.

Ranbir’s acting is being lauded by one and all and the way he has mirrored Sanjay Dutt and brought him to life is the USP of the film. Ranbir’s acting has been hailed by most film critics but there has been one section of journalists who have not liked the way the film was treated as they felt that it was a PR exercise to cleanse Sanjay’s image and this is not how a biopic should have been made. Nevertheless, the film is going great guns at the box office and the audience is liking it.
