For the unversed, in 2005, a long-time stalker and a man twice Laxmi's age, had thrown a beer bottle loaded with acid on her for rejecting his advances. Laxmi had to go for multiple surgeries apart from the emotional and mental trauma that she had to face. After a long period of despair, Laxmi got the required media coverage and support from all across the nation, which helped her in becoming an acid attack survivor rather than just a victim.

Chhapaak is co-produced by Deepika and Meghna in collaboration with Fox Star Studios. The film is scheduled for release on January 10, 2020.
