I am under attack only because a film is being made on my life: Mathematician Anand Kumar on Super 30 controversy

Hrithik Roshan is all set to play the lead role in Super 30, based on mathematician and educationist Anand Kumar. The Patna-based tutor is known to have founded the institute that provides free coaching to 30 underprivileged students. However, lately, he has been dogged with allegations of fraud and litigations for allegedly pushing his students to join other, more expensive, centres. In fact, a public interest litigation filed against him in the Gauhati High Court in 2018 by four students of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati challenged Anand's claims that 26 of his 30 students have cleared the IIT-JEE entrance exam. The petitioners further demanded a ban on the release of Super 30.

Now in an interaction with a leading daily, Anand defended himself and said, "I am under attack only because a film is being made on my life," adding, "The Bihar government has given me security cover. My brother Pranav was hit by a heavy vehicle last year; it was not an accident, it was deliberate. There are a handful of people with feudal mindset who are hell- bent on pulling me down. But the film will silence my detractors."

Incidentally, his journey may have caught the attention of many a filmmaker and for those caught unaware, writer Sanjeev Dutta approached him eight years ago, keen to adapt his story for a biopic. "Anurag Basu showed interest then, but nothing moved. Things took off when producer Madhu Mantena came into the picture. It was through him that I met Hrithik Roshan. He told me he needed a year to prep for the role," Anand revealed. When prodded if Hrithik is a good choice to portray him on screen, he signed off by saying, "Isn't acting all about diving into the character? I admire him as an actor."

Also starring Nandish Sandhu, Amit Sadh, Mrunal Thakur, Aditya Srivastava and Virendra Saxena, Super 30 is directed by Vikas Bahl and will be released on July 12.
