Hina Khan’s latest short film, Smartphone, has released on the ULLU app on April 24. Directed by Ankush Bhatt, it features Hina Khan as Suman, Kunaal Roy Kapur as Chandan, and Akshay Oberoi as Vicky.
The film begins with the story of Hina’s character Sumna, who hails from a small village in Uttar Pradesh. After marrying Chandan, she moves to Mumbai and she is so awestruck by Mumbai that when she speaks to her mother, she quips, "Aisi waisi city nahi hai yeh. Apne jaise 50 Kasganj aa jaye yahaan." As he adapts herself into the new environment, her husband also gifts a smartphone to her in order to make her learn new things. However, things take a turn when Chandan, who is addicted to gambling, bets her off in a game.
While the 19-minute long film in the starting makes you believe that Hina’s character Suman will end up in a big mess, it all changes because of the smartphone. Everything ends well and that too with a quirky twist in the climax, which will certainly give you a hearty laugh. Without giving out any spoilers, the film will keep you engrossed till the end only to make you realise that you have missed the point all along. And one has to see what happens next, and Hina aka Suman tackles the situation apart from knowing what role the smartphone plays in it? A story on today’s reality Smartphone, it can nonetheless be said that Suman’s smartness lead to a shocking consequence for the poor husband.
Coming to the performances, Hina shines in every frame and she has played her village belle avatar in utmost prowess. Her body language and accent is on point. On the other hand, both Kunaal and Akshay have played their cards well and managed to keep the audience entertained throughout.
