Ram Charan pens heartfelt note for buddy tennis champion Sania Mirza after her farewell match, says ‘your contribution to sports in India is unmatched’

Indian tennis icon Sania Mirza played her last match at Hyderabad’s Lal Bahadur Stadium on Sunday, March 5. The exhibition match and the felicitation ceremony that followed it were attended by several celebrities. Ram Charan, who is in the US to attend the Oscars 2023, took to Twitter to pen a heartfelt note for his ‘buddy’ Sania and thanked her for her contribution to Indian sports.

Taking to Twitter, Ram Charan shared a note for Sania along with a picture that featured him and his wife, Upasana Konidela with the athlete. He wrote, “My dearest buddy @MirzaSania … Tennis courts across the world will miss seeing you in action. Your contribution to sports in India is unmatched. You continue to make us proud.”

Sania bid adieu to Tennis during Australian Open 2023. In an emotional note on social media, she had announced her retirement from tennis after playing for India for 20 years. She played exhibition matches featuring Rohan Bopanna, Yuvraj Singh and her 'best friend' Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Ivan Dodig, Cara Black and Marion Bartoli at the Lal Bahadur Tennis Stadium, in Hyderabad, the venue where she signalled her arrival on the big stage with a historic WTA singles title triumph nearly two decades ago.

Sania celebrated her illustrious career with a bash attended by her family and close friends at the Trident Hyderabad on Sunday. The party was attended by Farah Khan, AR Rahman, Irfan Pathan, Yuvraj Singh, Mahesh Babu, Namrata Shirodkar, Sania Nehwal, Parupalli Kashyap and several others.
