'I don't have any plans to enter politics in the future,' says Rajinikanth dissolving Rajini Makkal Mandram

Reports of superstar Rajinikanth foraying into politics were all over the place in the past few years. However, citing health reasons, he announced that his political plans have been put on the back burner. In the month of June, Rajinikanth travelled to the United States to reportedly get health check-ups done. Now, days after returning from the U.S, Rajinikanth has dissolved the Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM).

Rajinikanth held a meeting with Rajini Makkal Mandram functionaries. After that, he addressed the media in Chennai and said that he has no plans to enter politics any time in the future. "What we expected didn't happen due to the prevailing situation. I don't have any plans to enter politics in the future," Rajinikanth said in his statement.

Rajinikanth, who is popularly addressed as Thalaiva by his fans out of love and respect, further stated that the office-bearers of the Rajinikanth Makkal Mandram will continue to work for people's welfare. He added that the RMM will be a part of the Rajinikanth Fan Club Association. "I have decided to dissolve Rajini Makkal Mandram. The office-bearers of the Rajinikanth Makkal Mandram would continue to be part of the Rajinikanth Fan Club Association that will involve itself in public service," he told.

In June, Thalaiva was clicked outside Mayo clinic in the U.S with his daughter Aishwarya Dhanush. The picture had surfaced online. In December 2020, Rajinikanth was admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad for fluctuating blood pressure. He was shooting for his next film Annatthe when his health deteriorated. After returning home from the hospital, he announced that he won't be foraying into politics.

Apologising to his fans, Rajinikanth said in a statement, "I see this health complication as a warning given to me by God." He added, "Just because people will question me after I gave my word on my entry into politics, I don’t prefer to sacrifice my allies and friends. Forgive me because this decision will cause disappointment to those in Rajini Makkal Mandram and those who expected that I will enter politics."
