Reclusive Adi Chopra, Aamir, Ranveer support Rani Mukerji

Aditya Chopra is famously reclusive when it comes to being in the public eye, never to be spotted at film industry events or B-town parties. But we are glad to see that he was there to support his wife Rani Mukerji, as he attended the last rites of his father-in-law Ram Mukerji. The YRF scion and filmmaker was clicked inside his car, even as he attempted to partly shield his face.

Mrs. Krishna Mukerji, who declared, “He is no more, everything is finished,” was clearly emotional as she spoke about how her late husband had been admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital since October 13. “Unfortunately, his body was not responding to the treatment that well this time. Last night, his blood pressure suddenly dropped around 5am.”

A statement on Mr. Mukerji's demise had read, “Ram Mukerji, respected filmmaker, beloved father and husband, is no more. He passed away on October 22 at 6 am due to natural causes. Close friends and family attended his quiet funeral at 2 pm this afternoon. Ram Mukerji was one of the key associates of S. Mukerji and one of the founder members of Filmalaya studios and is known for directing films like Hum Hindustani and Leader starring the legend Dilip Kumar. He will be sorely missed by his wife Krishna Mukerji, daughter Rani Mukerji, son Raja Mukerji and the rest of the family.”

The funeral was also attended by Aamir Khan, who is a close friend of Rani’s, and Ranveer Singh, who was launched by YashRaj and remains close to Adi Chopra. Both stars had arrived together for the final rites.

The late Ram Mukerji had launched his daughter Rani in a Bengali romantic comedy film titled Biyer Phool alongside Prosenjit Chatterjee in the year 1996. He also went on to produce her Bollywood debut film Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat in 1997. He had also directed films like Raktanadir Dhara (1994), Tomar Rakte Amar Sohag (1993), Raktalekha (1992), Ek Bar Mooskura Do (1972), Leader (1964), and Hum Hindustani (1960).

Mukerji’s passing drew condolences from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who shared, “Saddened at the passing of veteran filmmaker Ram Mukerji. My condolences to his family” and also by Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee who tweeted: “Really sad to hear Ram Mukerji passed away. I had an opportunity to work with him in Rakta Nadir Dhara, Raktalekha, Biyer Phool. RIP Ramda.”

Rani, who kept her dark glasses on, was seen accepting the condolences with palms joined. Back in 2011, in an interview, her father had spoken about how she had been taking care of him while he was ill and that she had even cancelled all her plans which had she made for that year. He had shared, “My daughter was very upset because I was not keeping well. But I am happy that I am perfectly fine now, and that my daughter has been able to concentrate on her work. I am blessed to have a daughter like Rani and I must say that I am a very proud father.”
