Dream Team! Prabal Gurung and Phillip Lim collaborate to create costumes for Disney+ series ‘American Born Chinese’

The recently announced show American Born Chinese is making a buzz for all the right reasons. Making a first-ever professional collaboration, Asian-American designers Prabal Gurung and Phillip Lim have joined forces to create costumes for the upcoming Disney+ series.

As reported by Deadline, the duo will work closely with costume designer Joy Cretton to curate costumes for ‘culturally significant characters from Chinese mythology and classic literature portrayed in the series by stars Michelle Yeoh and Daniel Wu.’ Prabal too, shared the news on his social media account and announced the same. “Prabal and Phillip are both incredibly talented artists who have made their mark in the fashion world, and we are delighted and honored that they were willing to join our creative team at American Born Chinese. We are very proud of this unique series and its thoughtful portrayal of the Chinese-American experience, and we continue to seek partnerships with prolific Asian-American talent both in front of and behind the camera,” said executive producer Melvin Mar as reported by Deadline.

Based on the graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang, this series narrates the tale of Jin Wang, an average school teacher juggling with his personal and professional life. Currently, under production, this series stars Yeoh, Ben Wang, Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Daniel Wu, Ke Huy Quan, Jim Liu and Sydney Taylor.
