Due to COVID-19 Pandemic, designers Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Manish Malhotra and others choose social responsibility over business; close stores and workshops ensuring a paid leave!

The pandemic of COVID-19 also known as the Coronavirus has brought the world to a standstill. With India being the latest to join the infected country list, the government officials have started taking precautionary measures to minimize the impact of the same. Owing to public safety, many industries have shut down its operations, which includes the tinsel town of Bollywood.

Latest to join the social responsibility bandwagon is the fashion industry which has taken a bold yet commendable decision of valuing human life more than business and revenue. Yes, given the impact of this life-threatening virus, ace designers and big labels have taken the decision of shutting down their workshops and stores to ensure the safety of their customers and workers.

Bollywood’s go-to designer Manish Malhotra also joined the social responsibility bandwagon and temporarily discontinued its operations from March 20, 2020. “Understanding our priority to ensure the health of our employees, clients, and our nation, we are temporarily discontinuing our operations from 20th March, 5 PM.”, the statement read.

Designer Anita Dongre also contributed her bit to the society by shutting down her workshops and setting up a dedicated fund of INR 15 Million to support any medical treatments arising through these troubling times. “This fund will cover our small vendors, self-employed artisans, and partners who do not have medical insurance or coverage.”, Anita said in her statement. Big move!

Designer duo Abu Jani- Sandeep Khosla also shut their stores, factories and ateliers in New Delhi, Goa, Mumbai, Hyderabad until further notice.
