Leonardo Di Caprio as Joker: A dream casting for Warner Bros?

The Batman universe is getting another spin-off in a new movie Joker Origins. The movie will be a crime drama set in 80’s underworld of Gotham city and will explain how bullying shaped the villain’s twisted psyche. Martin Scorsese and Todd Philip will co-produce it for Warner Bros and DC.  While Hangover fame Todd is also writing and perhaps also be directing the flick.

So far 4 actors have played Joker on screen viz Ceser Romero playing 60’s Batman TV show, Jack Nicholson for Tim Burton’s 1989 hit. Next up was Heath Ledger with his Oscar performance in Nolan’s 2008 The Dark Knight and most recently Jared Leto in Suicide Squad. But who bags the role in the Joker Origins is the question of the hour.

Now, when potentially Leonardo Di Caprio’s name is on the Warner Bro’s list, one wonders how they are going to approach a franchise-averse Leo for the role? Hollywood insiders believe that Scorsese-Philip duo might be able to lure Leo for this project when the production house will approach him.

The stakes in playing a villain like Joker is very high for any actor; Joker is easily the darkest and most evil character to play but how Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger took him to another level with their performances also adds up to the pressure. Recently, Jared Leto got a lot of flaking from fans and critics alike for his portrayal in Suicide Squad.

Wouldn’t it be a dream come true to see how the Oscar-winning Di Caprio will play up mean, psychotic Joker? Well, for now, it’s just that… a dream for us and for Warner Bros and DC!
