How 'Gehraiyaan' proves Dharma Productions to be emerging as one of the key content kings of the OTT space!

Dharma Productions has been on a roll even on the OTT space. If a few years ago, someone was to tell you that your favourite Bollywood films will now release directly on the TV/laptop screens in your living room, you'd laugh it off. But well, we are living in the COVID era and if there's something this pandemic has changed majorly for all movie buffs then it is the way we look at content these days. Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and its digital content company Dharmatic Entertainment have been ruling the OTT space and it hasn't been that long. In less than 2 years, KJo has managed to impress audiences with an excellent lineup of films, anthologies and shows.

Be it Kiara Advani and Gurfateh Pirzada's Guilty or the recently released hit Gehraiyaan starring Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karwa, Dharma Productions and Dharmatic Entertainment have always served content that is relatable and highly engaging. Now, as Gehraiyaan makes the much-expected waves, here's looking at how Dharma is emerging as one of the key content kings in the OTT space!

GUILTY (2020)

Guilty, the first of the many hit films of Dharmatic Productions to release on an OTT platform, was one of the most talked-about films of 2020. Ruchi Narain’s gripping whodunit Guilty was backed by Karan and the web film introduced Akansha Ranjan Kapoor and Gurfateh Pirzada in poignant and central roles along with the lead actress Kiara Advani. The film follows the story of a songwriter whose boyfriend is accused of rape during the era of #MeToo. The film is the first production venture of Dharmatic, the digital arm of Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. It was released on 6 March 2020 on Netflix.

GUNJAN SAXENA: THE KARGIL GIRL (2020)

Dharma Productions hit it out of the park with Janhvi Kapoor's Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. It is the engaging story of Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena, a helicopter pilot in the Indian Air Force, who struggled for acceptance in the male-dominated defence force and then vindicated herself in action during the Kargil War. The film opened up conversations about working women in a male-dominated society that still exists. The Netflix film was praised for its storyline and Janhvi's impeccable performance.

FABULOUS LIVES OF BOLLYWOOD WIVES (2020)

Dharma Productions got Bollywood wives and buddies Neelam Kothari Soni, Maheep Kapoor, Bhavana Pandey and Seema Khan for their much talked about series titled Fabulous Lives Of Bollywood Wives. As the title suggests, the lives of these four Bollywood wives and close friends came across as fabulous, fun and lavish. The Karan Johar show, which has already been renewed for a second season, also featured the filmmakers in a few episodes. And well, who doesn't like a bit of gossip and drama coming straight from these B-town wives? Fabulous Lives Of Bollywood Wives released on Netflix in November 2020 and went on to become one of the most-watched shows on the OTT platform.

SHERSHAAH (2021)

Touted as one of the biggest hits of the year 2021, Sidharth Malhotra's Shershaah made the right impact. The film marked the Bollywood debut of Tamil director Vishnu Varadhan. Starring Sidharth and Kiara Advani in the lead roles, Shershaah strongly narrated the true story of Captain Vikram Batra (PVC) - the real-life hero who was martyred in the 1999 Kargil War. Set in the 1990s, Shershaah offered an insight into the life of the Param Veer Chakra awardee from his age of innocent romance to his sacrifice for the country. The movie took us through various aspects of a soldier's life - both personal and professional. It instilled patriotism in the heart of the viewers but also gave the correct amount of thrills and chills. Shershaah remains Amazon Prime Video's one of the most successful films of 2021.

MEENAKSHI SUNDARESHWAR (2021)

Meenakshi Sundareshwar was hands down one of the most relatable films of 2021. Directed by Vivek Sonithe film is about a newly married couple dealing with their fragile long-distance relationship. The Sanya Malhotra-Abhimanyu Dassani film appealingly presented how two newlyweds face the hassles, hiccups and hilarity that arise when forced to live apart due to a unique job prospect. While being in a long-distance relationship comes with its own set of problems, it can also get exciting if maintained properly. And that is exactly what we see in Sanya and Abhimanyu's Meenakshi Sundareshwar. The film received a good response when it released on Netflix and went on the become one of the most-watched films on the OTT platform in November 2021.

GEHRAIYAAN (2022)

The latest hit of Dharma's OTT content is Gehraiyaan. Four Millennials, three love stories, one family bond and a friendship of a lifetime – but the deeper you go, the darker it gets! That’s what Shakun Batra’s much-anticipated film Gehraiyaan is all about. It’s about love, it’s about choices, about a woman who finds herself at a crossroads in life, but above all – it’s about the dark side of modern-day relationships. With a stellar cast including Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karwa, Gehraiyaan is a mirror of modern adult relationships. Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Gehraiyaan gives us a glimpse of reality in the form of the darkest take on the subject of love and longing. This is an avante garde genre entirely new to Bollywood. It released on Amazon Prime Video on January 11 and created a mark soon after. Gehraiyaan not just became one of the most engaging films of the year but also opened up several conversations!

And with Madhuri Dixit Nene's web debut The Fame Game releasing on February 25, Dharma is all set to also show the dark side of the Bollywood world.

With relatable, engaging and gripping stories, Dharma is topping the list of the top OTT content kings of today's times!
