International Day of Families: Classy Kapoors, iconic 'Khan'daan and the royal Pataudis, here are Bollywood 'parivaars' we love!

Family plays an important role in every person’s life. Be it supporting each other’s decisions or quarreling over minor activities, there is no parallel substitute to the beauty of togetherness. Today, as the world celebrates International Day of Families, how can one miss out on the khandaans of Bollywood?

So, on the occasion to cherish the feeling of being in a family of diverse individuals, let’s take a look at some of Bollywood and Indian cinema’s reputed clans. From South’s Akkineni-Daggubati family to Bollywood’s Kapoors and Chopra, these filmi parivaars have given a new definition to togetherness.

Akkineni-Daggubati family

The largest and most influential family down South, the Akkineni and Daggubati clan have been ruling the cinema industry for the longest time. Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Daggubati Ramanaidu being the head of the family, superstars like Nagarjuna, Rana Daggubati, Naga Chaitanya, Samantha Prabhu Akkineni and Akhil Akkineni are taking the legacy forward.

Bachchan family

With Harivansh Rai Bachchan marking his prominent presence as a poet, the Bachchan aka Srivastava family became one of the most respected members of Indian cinema. Amitabh Bachchan took forward the legacy of his father and attained the title of sadi ke mahanayak with his incredible work. He married actress Jaya Bhaduri and they became parents to Shweta Bachchan, who is now married to Nikhil Nanda and is mother to Navya Naveli Nanda and Agastya Nanda. Amitabh-Jaya’s son Abhishek Bachchan, an actor, is married to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and is father to Aaradhya Bachchan. Amitabh's brother Ajitabh has a daughter named Naina who is married to Kunal Kapoor.

Bhatt family

Nanabhai Bhatt headed one of the prominent families of Bollywood. A known Gujarati filmmaker, he married Hemlata Bhatt. Shirin Mohammad Ali was his mistress. Nanabhai’s children include Mahesh Bhatt, Mukesh Bhatt and Robin Bhatt. Mahesh is a filmmaker and is married to Lorraine Bright aka Kiran Bhatt and Soni Razdan. With Kiran, he is a parent to Pooja Bhatt and Rahul Bhatt while Soni and he are parents to Shaheen Bhatt and Alia Bhatt. Filmmaker Mohit Suri and actor Emraan Hashmi are related to the Bhatts.

 

Deol family

Born as Dharam Singh Deol, Dharmendra started off the legacy of the family. After marrying Prakash Kaur, he became father to Ajay Singh Deol (Sunny) and Vijay Singh Deol (Bobby). Sunny, an actor married Lynda aka Pooja Deol and is father to Karan Deol. Bobby is married to Tanya Deol and is father to Aryaman and Dharam. Dharmendra also has two daughters Vijayta and Ajeeta from his first marriage. He later went on to marry Hema Malini and has two daughters Esha Deol Takhtani and Ahana Deol Vohra. They are now mothers to Radhya-Miraya Takhtani and Darien Vohra. Abhay Deol is Dharmendra's brother's son. 

Chopra family

The head of the clan, Vilayati Raj Chopra and his four sons Baldev, Dharam, Raj and Yash took the legacy of the family forward. Baldev’s son Ravi Chopra married Renu and was father to Kapil and Abhay. Abhay aka Juno is a popular filmmaker. Yash tied the knot with Pamela and their children are Aditya, now married to Rani Mukerji, and Uday. Aditya-Rani’s daughter is Adira Chopra. According to reports, Karan Johar’s mother Hiroo is related to the family.

 

Sunil Dutt family

Sunil Dutt and Nargis made for one of the most influential families of Bollywood. Their children are Sanjay Dutt, Priya Dutt and Namrata Dutt. Sanjay was married to Richa Sharma, who died due to a brain tumour. The couple has a daughter named Trishala Dutt. He later found love in Rhea Pillai. After parting ways with her, he married Maanayata Dutt and has twins-Shahraan and Iqra. Priya is married to Owen Roncon and her kids are Sumair Roncon and Siddharth Roncon. Namrata is Kumar Gaurav’s wife. Her daughters are Saachi Kumar and Siya Kumar who are married to Bilal Amrohi and Aditya Udani respectively.

Prithviraj Kapoor family

Prithviraj Kapoor started the family and its legacy in cinema. He was father to actors Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor who were married to Krishna Kapoor, Geeta Bali-Neila Devi and Jennifer Kendal respectively. Raj’s kids were Randhir, married to Babita, Ritu Kapoor-Nanda, whose husband was Rajan Nanda, Rishi, married to Neetu Singh, Rima Kapoor-Jain, whose husband is Manoj Jain and Rajiv Kapoor, married to Aarti. Randhir-Babita are parents to Karisma and Kareena. The former was married to Sunjay Kapur and has Samiera Kapur and Kiaan Raj Kapoor as children. Kareena is married to Saif Ali Khan and has a son named Taimur Ali Khan. Rima breathed her last in 2019 and was mother to Nitasha and Nikhil. Nikhil is Shweta Bachchan’s husband and is father to Navya Naveli Nanda and Agastya Nanda. Rishi’s children include Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and Ranbir Kapoor. Riddhima is married to Bharat Sahni and has a daughter Samara. Ranbir is dating Alia Bhatt. Rima-Manoj are parents to Armaan, married to Anissa Malhotra and Aadar, who is said to be dating Tara Sutaria.

Surinder Kapoor family

Surinder Kapoor’s and Nirmal Kapoor’s children are Boney Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor and Reena Marwah. Boney was formerly married to Mona Shourie who died due to cancer in 2012. He is father to Arjun Kapoor and Anshula from the first marriage. His second wife was Sridevi who passed away in 2018 due to accidental drowning in Dubai. Their children are Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. Anil, married to Sunita Bhavnani-Kapoor, is father is Sonam Kapoor-Ahuja, Rhea Kapoor and Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor. Sonam is now married to Anand Ahuja. Sanjay and his wife Maheep are parents to Shanaya Kapoor and Jahaan Kapoor. Reena is married to Sandeep Marwah and is mother to Mohit Marwah and Akshay Marwah. For the unversed, Ranveer Singh is related to the Kapoors too. 

Salim Khan family

Writer Salim Khan married Sushila Charak aka Salma Khan and became father to Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, Alvira Khan Agnihotri and Arpita Khan Sharma. Salman is yet to get married while Arbaaz parted ways with Malaika Arora and is dating Giorgia Andriani now. He has a son from his first marriage named Arhaan. Sohail and wife Seema are parents to Nirvan Khan and Yohan Khan. Alvira and Atul Agnihotri have a daughter named Alizeh. Arpita and her husband Aayush Sharma have two children-Ahil and Ayat.

Mangeshkar family

Musician and theatre actor Deenanath Mangeshkar’s daughters Lata, Meena, Usha and Asha with his son Hridaynath took the legacy forward. Asha's first husband was Ganpatrao Bhosle and then she tied the knot with RD Burman. Her children are Hemant, Varsha and Anand. Interestingly, the Kolhapure family including Shivangi, Padmini and Tejasvini are related to the Mangeshkar family. Shivangi’s husband is Shakti Kapoor and her children are Siddhanth and Shraddha. Padmini's and Pradeep Sharma’s son is Priyank Sharma while Tejasvini has a daughter named Vedika.

Mukerji-Samarth family

Popular actress Shobhana Samarth’s daughter Tanuja married Shomu Mukerji and has daughters Kajol and Tanishaa. Shobhana’s other daughter Nutan married Lieutenant-Commander Rajnish Bahl. Tanuja’s daughter Kajol is now married to Ajay Devgn and is mother to Nysa and Yug. Nutan’s son Mohnish Bahl is married to Aarti and has daughters Pranutan and Krisha. Shomu’s brother Deb Mukerji is director Ayan Mukerji’s father while his other brother late Ram Mukerji is survived by daughter Rani and son Raja. Rani is now married to Aditya Chopra and has a daughter Adira.

Pataudi family

Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, known as Tiger Pataudi married Sharmila Tagore and became father to Saif Ali Khan, Soha Ali Khan and Saba Ali Khan. Saif was formerly married to Amrita Singh and has two children-Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. His second wife is Kareena Kapoor-Khan and the couple has a son named Taimur. Soha is married to Kunal Kemmu and is a mother to Inaaya Naumi Kemmu.
