The impact of ‘Dhurandhar’ and ‘Dhurandhar 2’ taught the industry a valuable lesson: poor release timing can come at a heavy cost. While many films rescheduled their release dates so as not to get caught in the wave of popularity that Ranveer Singh’s film was riding at the box office, the rest of 2026 will still witness some major clashes nonetheless. Interestingly, these clashes are no longer confined to a single day; they are now clearly visible between films with proximate release dates as well.

First up, on May 1, ‘Raja Shivaji’ starring Riteish Deshmukh will face off with ‘Ek Din’, which features Aamir Khan’s son Junaid in the lead and is made by Aamir Khan Productions. Although the films belong to different genres, a direct battle for screens and audiences is inevitable.

Following this, on May 22, the box office will witness a triple clash involving ‘Chand Mera Dil’ by Dharma Productions, ‘Bandar’ directed by Anurag Kashyap. and ‘Tera Yaar Hoon Main’ by Milap Milan Zaveri. The distinct tones of these films will offer audiences a wider range of choices, yet it is expected that the box office collections will end up being split.

The intensity of these clashes escalates in June. ‘Toxic’, headlined by Yash and directed by Geetu Mohandas, is rescheduled for a June 4 release. Around the same window, on June 12, ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ directed by Imtiaz Ali and ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’, helmed by David Dhawan, are set to hit theatres. Such close proximity in release dates will invariably have a direct impact on box office performance.

A major showdown is also expected during the Independence Day weekend. ‘Naagzilla’, starring Kartik Aaryan, is slated for release on August 14, and there is a strong possibility of it clashing with ‘Maatrubhumi’ headlined by Salman Khan. In terms of sheer star power, this particular clash is being regarded as a heavyweight battle.

At the end of August, on the 28th, ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla 2’ and ‘Vvan’ will go head-to-head. On one side stands the sequel to a cult classic, while on the other lies a story set in a new-age cinematic space, a clash that is bound to appeal to distinct sets of audiences. In such a scenario, victory will belong to the film that successfully captures the audience's attention at just the right moment.
