When he was asked by PeepingMoon.com in its podcast ‘BenchMARK Conversations’ about who would he leave the huge empire that is Dharma Productions to when the time came, filmmaker and chat show supremo Karan Johar came up with a startling answer. He said, “I don’t believe in leaving a legacy to just your flesh and blood.” The recent hour-long podcast, presented by Reliance Digital, saw KJo baring his soul about why he would not be keen to pass on the reins to his children, twins Yash and Roohi, who will be nine years old on February 7.
“If they’re not inclined, I wouldn’t want to force them. Why should I lumber them with the responsibility I have started?” KJo said. “They may want to do something entirely different. My daughter Roohi may want to be an artist, she may want to paint, my son Yash may want to work in a bank, may want to go abroad and do something, or a start-up in India. Just because I am passionate about Hindi cinema and filmmaking does not mean they should be. At the time, I will leave the legacy that is Dharma Productions to a person I feel who can genuinely take the company forward. And that person may or may not be my blood.”
