Exclusive: Taha Shah Badussha on criticism over Urdu in Heeramandi- Forget the words, look at the eyes

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's opulent show, Heeramandi, is trending on Netflix since it premiered on May 1. The 8-episode series based on the lives of courtesans has been received well globally. Despite the acclaim, a section of netizens criticised the director and actors for speaking incorrect Urdu. In an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon, Taha Shah Badussha, who plays the role of Tajdar Baloch in Heeramandi, reacted to the criticism.

Taha told us exclusively that Sanjay Leela Bhansali brought professional writers on board to train the actors in Urdu. He shared, "We don't need to clarify anything. Everyone has their own thoughts, own perspectives. According to the understanding of the culture and behaviour, we got professional writers and we've gotten professional diction coaches to work on this project. So, at the end of the day, everyone's best effort forward and nobody wants to write wrong Urdu or not right. Everyone wants to do the best to provide the audience the best entertainment as possible."

The actor added, "So, there's nothing to clarify. It is all of us have put our best foot forward. I'm sure if they rewatch it and they don't watch just the language, what they watch, the opulence of it. They watch the beauty of it. They watch the emotions that are being conveyed. This is what should be. The words don't matter. Joh aap nahi bolte ho na voh matter karta hai. That's where the emotion lies. That's where your heart lies. That's true emotion. Forget the words, look at the eyes."
