Nitin Desai Death: 5 booked under abetment to suicide, police launches probe

Renowned art director Nitin Desai was found dead at his ND Studio in Karjat on August 2,2023. Till now, his death was considered to be a suicide case as it was reported that Nitin was unable to repay a loan of Rs 252 crores that he took in January 2020.

However, Khalapur police later recovered a voice recorder that contained 11 audio clips. In one of them, Desai reportedly revealed the names of those responsible for his drastic step. Reportedly,
“My last salutation to Lalbaug cha Raja,” were Nitin's last words in the audio. Sources claim that in one of the voice notes, he has also requested the state and central government to ensure that his studio is used to nurture talent and does not go into the hands of financiers.

Nitin Desai's wife Neha Desai hss submitted a written report to the police alleging that employees of ECL Finance and the Edelweiss Group were pressuring her husband to recover the loan taken by the company. Her complaint stated that the director was fed up with the harassment and all these led to such a drastic step of ending his life. In the wake of her complaint, police have registered a First Information Report under Indian Penal Code 306 (abetment of suicide ) and section 34 (acts by several persons in furtherance of common intention) against the 5 accused.
