Vijay Deverakonda has taken the country by storm when the trailer of his Bollywood debut Liger was released on July 21 at a launch event by chief guest Ranveer Singh. Ever since the trailer dropped people have been going gaga over the actor. However, what took everyone by surprise was the fact that the southern heartthrob appeared at the trailer launch in a pair of brown cargo pants, a black T-shirt and slippers. Yes, you read that right, the powerhouse performer wore a Rs 199 slippers to the big stage and now his stylist has revealed the reason behind this.
His stylist Harmann Kaur has shared why Vijay wore chappals worth Rs 199 to the event. Talking about Vijay’s Liger promotions, Harmann said that many brands and designers were constantly in touch with her for dressing Vijay. “I was all prepped to make it really top-notch chill until Vijay called me one day and said let’s be closest to the character and keep a very underdog look. He specifically asked me for the basic chappals and initially, I was a little hesitant but I also always trust Vijay’s dressing up ideas because I know he ends up making it the talk of the country.”
The celebrity stylist further revealed how Vijay gave input for his looks, including choosing to wear the slippers to the Liger trailer launch. She revealed Vijay’s T-shirt was customised with the word ‘THE’ which was suggested by the actor. “I was constantly nervous as the event was on a big scale, especially in Mumbai, and walking in wearing chappals worth Rs 199 was really brave of Vijay but I'm glad it was received with a lot of love,” she added about people’s reaction to Vijay’s slippers.

Ranveer had also remarked on Vijay’s choice of wearing slippers to the event when his leading lady Ananya Panday was all decked up in high heels and a thigh-high slit black gown. Ranveer compared Vijay’s style to John Abraham who often appears at events in comfy casuals and slippers and said, “Bhai ka style dekho, aise lag raha hai, ye mere trailer launch pe aaya hai ya main inke trailer launch pe aaya hu (Look at brother's style, it looks like, he has come to my trailer launch instead of me coming to his trailer launch).”
Liger is directed by Puri Jagannadh and also stars Ramya Krishnan, Ronit Bose Roy and Mike Tyson. It is jointly produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Charmme Kaur and Puri Connects and is slated to release on August 25.
