‘Don’t quote me out of context or cull out portions for sensational headlines,’ says Mrunal Thakur slamming media as her statement on having ‘suicidal thoughts’ go viral

Mrunal Thakur has urged the media to not quote her "out of context or cull out portions that might make for sensational headlines," referring to her interview where she spoke about having suicidal thoughts and jumping off the local trains when she was in college. ‘Mrunal Thakur reveals having suicidal thoughts’ and other such headlines trended yesterday on social media which sent a wrong message to her fans and followers.

With her statement going viral after being misinterpreted, Mrunal took to Twitter to issue a statement. She urged everyone to watch the entire interview and not to extract portions from it out of context to make for sensational story. Her statement reads, “A recent interview I did - in which I spoke candidly about my childhood, and about my journey as an actor so far - appears to have been extracted out of context to highlight one sensitive topic that has been completely misunderstood and sensationalized by several media outlets. While I stand by the interview that I did, incidents like these make public figures wary of speaking honestly to the media. I urge you to watch the interview in full, and I request my friends in the media not to quote me out of context or cull out portions that might make for sensational headlines.”

In the interview with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, Mrunal was talking about her younger days and revealed that she was around the age of 15 to 20, a phase when everyone is not clear about what they are doing in their lives. She had said, “There were a lot of responsibilities as well. At that time, I used to think that if I didn’t do this well, I would be nowhere. I thought I would be married off at 23 and have kids, and that is exactly what I did not want. I wanted to do something different and I would give auditions back then. There were many points where I felt like I was good for nothing.”

She further said, “I used to travel by local trains. I used to stand at the door and sometimes, I would feel like jumping off. When you choose a course, it looks very fun on the outside but until you do it, you don’t realise that you didn’t sign up for this, this is something else. That is what was happening with me.”
