Dilip Kumar suffered kidney failure, legendary actor was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer

An era of Indian cinema came to an end this morning. Legendary actor Dilip Kumar passed away in Mumbai's Hinduja Hospital at 7.30 am. He was being treated by Dr Nitin Gokhale, Pulmonologist Dr Jalil Parkar (of Lilavati Hospital), Dr Anita Patel (Urologist) and Dr Jaideep Patil. The news of his demise was confirmed by a family friend and spokesperson, Faisal Farooqui.

A leading daily, quoting a doctor from the hospital, reported that Dilip Sahab had advanced prostate cancer that had spread in other organs of his body. The doctors were treating him for the last 3-4 months. The legendary actor was admitted to the hospital twice in June. The doctor said, "He had water in the pleural cavity, and he suffered kidney failure. He required blood transfusion multiple times. We carried out the last transfusion but it did not help."

The doctor further revealed that Dilip Sahab was bedridden for many months and had also become unresponsive in the last few days. The doctor shared, "The fluids accumulated in the pleural cavity had to be removed several times." The doctor mentioned that the actor's blood pressure and haemoglobin dropped towards the end. The doctor added, "The cancer spread made it difficult to treat him."

Dilip Sahab will be buried with full state honours at a Qabristan in Santacruz at 5 pm today. Due to the pandemic, not many people will be able to pay their last respects.
