On December 13, 2019, it was announced that Abhishek Kapoor will be directing a film based on the Balakot Airstrike. The airstrike was carried out after 49 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers were killed in the Pulwama attack in February last year. Now, in the latest development, a source close to the film told an entertainment portal that South heartthrob Vijay Deverakonda might make his Bollywood debut in it. The source said that Vijay, if he comes on board, will play the role of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman who was held captive in Pakistan for 60 hours.
"The untitled project on Balakot Air Strike will mostly be South superstar Vijay Deverakonda's big Bollywood debut. While his next film Fighter will be dubbed in Hindi and given a pan-India release, Abhishek's directorial will be his full-fledged Hindi feature. He will play the role of Wing Commander and national hero Abhinandan Varthaman who was kept captive in Pakistan for 60 hours following the India-Pakistan standoff. The film will trace the Pulwama attack, the air strike and Abhinandan's time in captivity in the neighbouring country and his return to India," the source told.
