Veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty’s father Basantakumar Chakraborty passed away on Tuesday evening in Mumbai. According to media reports, Basantakumar Chakraborty was ailing for quite some time and the reason for his death is renal failure. He was 95-years-old. Basantakumar is survived by his son’s family and wife Santimoyee Chakraborty. Unfortunately, Mithun is stuck in Bengaluru because of the lockdown and is trying to reach Mumbai via road for the last rites. The actor was there for a shoot. However, his eldest son, Mimoh aka Mahaakshay Chakraborty is in Mumbai.

Basantakumar was a former employee at Calcutta Telephones while his wife Santimoyee is a homemaker. Mithun himself has not confirmed the news of his father, however, some industry bigwigs took to social media to express their condolences to the veteran actor.

Basantakumar and his wife had four children, a son and three daughters. Gouranga Chakraborty aka Mithun is the eldest and the only son. After realizing that Mithun had Naxalite leanings, his late father had sent him to Bombay to sever his ties with the group. Mithun soon decided to make a career in Bollywood and joined FTII (Film and Television Institute of India). Basantakumar was a strict disciplinarian and although he did not approve of his son’s career choice he stood by him.
