'There was a time when I offered to pay for role, but still got rejected,' says Vicky Kaushal on his struggle to stardom

Vicky Kaushal rightfully attained the title of the nation's crush with his performance in 2019's surprise blockbuster Uri: The Surgical Strike. The actor who was previously recognised for his work in Masaan, Raazi and Sanju, climbed up the charts of success by finding a place on every leading filmmaker's list. A year after Uri, Vicky has his plate full of projects. While it isn't an unknown fact that the 31-year-old star struggled enough to make a mark, but did you know that he went on to offer money to makers of films at the beginning of his career? Well, Vicky revealed it in an interview with a leading daily. He told that even though he would get selected in the top 2 or 3 during auditions, the team would reject him after asking him his budget. Later, when nobody took him, he put forth the suggestion to work for free. Despite that, on facing rejection, he would offer to pay them for the role.

“I just wanted work and do good acting. I would always get selected in top 2 or 3 during auditions, but they would reject me after asking my budget. I would think that ‘maybe, they have rejected me because of my budget.’ So then, I started asking them their budget. When I said I would do in their budget, they would still reject me. Then I said I would work for free, they would still not take me. At last, I had to say that I would pay but give me work,” Vicky told.
