'Derived strength from parents' divorce 34 years ago,' says Dia Mirza on dealing with separation with Sahil Sangha

Dia Mirza, on August 1, 2019, announced a splitsville with her husband Sahil Sangha after five years into their marriage. The actress shared the news on her social media platforms, leaving her fans disappointed. Soon after Dia announced her separation, she maintained that Sahil will always remain her good friend. Talking to a leading daily about parting ways with the filmmaker who directed her in Love Breakups Zindagi in 2011, the 37-year-old actress told that she derived strength from her parents Frank Handrich, her German biological father and mother Deepa, a Bengali who then married a Hyderabadi Muslim named Ahmed Mirza. The Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, who was four and a half years old when her biological father left her mother, added that when she handled it at a tender age, she can definitely sail through the tough phase as an adult.

"My privilege as a celebrity doesn’t disallow my pain. I derived strength from my parents’ separation 34 years ago. I told myself that if I could handle it at four-and-a-half, there’s no reason why, at 37, I wouldn’t be able to. Men and women hesitate to take certain decisions because they’re afraid, you have to find the courage to believe that this too shall pass," Dia told.

Dia further added that she doesn't believe in holding grudges against anyone and credited meditation for the same. “I vent, then return to my serene self. I’ve been meditating since 14 years and my mornings are spent in the building garden. Even my home is full of lush greenery, with birds and bees visiting. Otherwise, the city gets to you—so many angry people around, including the media," Dia added.

Dia and Sahil tied the knot in 2014. Soon after their separation, rumours stated that writer Kanika Dhillion is the reason for their split. Dia, in an interview, dismissed the buzz as false. Workwise, the actress will be seen in Anubhav Sinha's Thappad which is releasing on February 28, 2020.
