Ranveer Singh, who has been training for ’83 since a month, says ‘Sandhu sir is happy with my rate of progress’

It’s been a month since Ranveer Singh has been training on the field with Balvinder Singh Sandhu for Kabir Khan’s upcoming film ’83 and told a leading daily that the cricketer is happy with his progress. Sandhu, a member of the 1983 winning team, trains Ranveer for two hours every alternate day in Mumbai.

"Sandhu sir's validation is of utmost importance to me. He's happy with my rate of progress. My regimen is a combination of skills, training and physical conditioning. I'm thoroughly enjoying this athletic lifestyle,” Ranveer told the daily.

In ’83, Ranveer has been cast as cricket legend Kapil Dev while sources told the daily that the actor is practicing rigorously to prepare for his role. Considering the fact that Sandhu has played with Kapil Dev, he is aware of his wrist action and bowling variations, and has been teaching the tactics to Ranveer.

"Ranveer has been practising for two hours every alternate day with Balvinder sir. Since he plays Kapil Dev, he has to perfect the former skipper's trademark outswinger. Balvinder sir has the advantage of playing alongside Kapil sir, so he has been helping Ranveer attain the pace bowler's moves - including his wrist action and bowling variations,” a source told the daily.

After the training sessions, Sandhu and Ranveer also discuss strategies and techniques of the game. “Post the physical training, the two often dissect the various World Cup matches to understand the strategies and techniques employed by the team against the respective opponents. Ranveer's cricket skills have improved leaps and bounds under his training, and Balvinder sir is happy with his efforts,” the source added.

’83 is based on the Indian cricket team’s historic victory in the 1983 World Cup.
